Holy helicopters! What’s up with those maple trees this year? It’s a “mast year,” which is a tree’s survival response to stress from the previous season. Remember the late freeze last spring? The trees reserved their energy by creating fewer seeds, and now this year, they’re releasing that stored energy and creating EXTRA seeds in order to focus on next generation. It’s a fascinating sacrificial survival tactic!
Don’t worry, the trees with be just fine, but stay on top of your gutters and fence lines and remove volunteers while they’re still small!
Our customers had a little fun with all the seeds and shared these great photos with us!
